Lane Lost 15 Pounds and 10 Inches!

Lane's learning session at the Thousand Oaks studio was difficult, and she immediately saw where it would work. "This wasn't playing around. I was sold." She was also impressed that the trainers told her it would have to be combined with good nutrition. "I took that to heart, and revamped the way I eat," Lane says.

Gyms intimidated Lane Scherer. Like a lot of people, she felt like she had to look good and be in decent shape just to walk into a regular gym. So she had never lifted weights or worked out with a personal trainer. And every time she lost weight by not eating, she'd gain it right back again. Then last fall she decided to make some dramatic changes. Part of it was an upcoming milestone birthday, which caused some self-reflection. Plus, she had an upcoming trip to France, Italy, and Switzerland with her three siblings and their spouses. There would be lots of hiking and walking, and she wanted to make sure she kept up with everyone. Her goal was to lose weight and be fit by the time she turned 60 in May.

Without depriving herself of anything, she stopped eating junk, controlled her portion sizes, and started eating five small meals a day. Since she had never had a regular exercise routine, she didn't have anything to compare to slow motion strength training. Within a few months, though, she felt stronger, had more energy, and started losing inches all over. In fact, after dropping from a size 12 to a 6 now, she had to buy all new clothes for the trip. And that's where the real test came. "We were very active. We got up early and stayed up late, and the hiking and walking was much easier. My family was surprised!"

As a busy attorney who spends a lot of time in court, The Perfect Workout is a great fit for Lane. She's able to squeeze in her two 20-minute workouts per week, and gives her trainer, Lauren, a lot of credit for getting the most out of each session. "Lifting weights is particularly important for women in their 50's and 60's. To fight aging, it's important to maintain your body. Strength training renews you. I feel like I have a new body, and I'm stronger than I've been since I was in my 40's." One of her goals was to be able to lift her 90-pound lab, and she can do it now. Her upcoming goal is to lose another 15-20 pounds by next March, when one of her three kids is getting married. Beyond that, Lane plans to constantly progress, and keep increasing her strength. "This is like having a new lease on life! It's nice to focus on myself for once."
